There is a Bridge Review
Imagine that there is a bridge that seems to embody an entire town’s sense of suffering, grief, and depression. People have jumped, hung, and died from this bridge. Most of us would take this a symbol of loss. However, there may be something bigger at play.
Folklore comes to life in There is a Bridge, the latest short comic by horror writer Dillon Gilbertson. Readers may remember my interview with him last year. Dillon is also the author or a horrifying monster comic called Sweet Heart.
There is a Bridge is drawn by Danny Jimenez. It is one of the many excellent stories found in the Local Haunts Anthology. The coloring is by Luca Romano. The lettering is done by Cristian Docolomansky.
This trio comes together to make a incredibly beautiful and scary display of sequential art. You can really feel the despair in the pages. The story is twisted and haunting. Readers of Effective Nerd know how much I love short story comics. There is a Bridge totally hit the spot.
This story is just one of many in an upcoming horror anthology series called Local Haunts. The book is put together by Kara Love. Local Haunts asks writers and artists to tell a scary story from their own hometown. Over fifty creators came together to bring this book to life.
Seeing as I am a big fan of Dillon’s, I am a bit biased. However, if There is a Bridge is any indicator then Local Haunts will be an excellent collection of comics! Make sure you check it out!
